The Boys from Melbourne Street

Colin, Dave and Keith got together in December 2003 at Dave’s studio in Melbourne  Street Exeter (surprise) just for a get together and to play some back issues from their youthful past just for fun, and to have a few pints afterwards. What happened was a huge connection of musical energy that led to their first CD “Songs From The Heart” being recorded at “Beatski” Studios near Crediton in Devon, which was released by Tabitha Records in November 2004, Colin had written the songs and the music and Dave and Keith pulled them apart and added their individual touch to each of the tracks. by the time this had been put on the market the second album “Carpe Diem” was already written and ready for recording.

“Songs from the Heart” was picked up by a few independent record shops and a number of downloading companies as well as being played on BBC Radio several times and “Critical Radio U.S.A one of the tracks was also featured as song of the day on UK Sounds, USA Sounds and OZ Sounds, which gave their music worldwide exposure.

As a result, great interest was now focussed on The Boys From Melbourne Street’s unusual sound and fusion of folk/pop/jazz/rock styles that seem to merge throughout each song, they successfully reached the semi finals of the British Songwriters Competition with a song from their latest CD “If I lost My Mobile” a rocky little number which strangely, edged itself into the folk category, so pick your own genre and it you will be able to find it in the music somewhere.

2005 turned out to be a busy year with a tour of the local and not so local music festivals, plus concerts and pub gigs which were very well received, The Boys From Melbourne Street are now gradually building up a fan base of people who want to hear their original music played in an easy relaxed style that crosses all the divides and being able to relate and connect with the lyrics as well as the music.

2006 and 2007 were really busy years but 2008 has been a little quieter for some reason.

The first CD “SONGS FROM THE HEART” release date 17.11.2005

“Songs From The Heart”  is a collection of songs about broken hearts and mended one's too, lost love, promises made and broken, raised hopes, unconditional love and forgiveness, the whole shebang really all in one album. The first track "Intoxicated" kick starts the breaking down of resistance and giving in to love whilst "Not Enough For You" describes the frustration of giving away all you have for not much in return, "Same Way Too" is about those magic connections that happen when you are not looking for them.

For those of you out there that have been there and worn the T shirt, then you will hopefully recognise those familiar feelings and emotions that I tried to capture, and allow it to channel and flow it’s way through the music as well as the lyrics, We have attempted to create a variety of moods and grooves using jazz, folk, rock and country music in a simple and easy style, because what you hear on CD is what you get live.

The second CD “CARPE DIEM” release date 10.03.2006

“Carpe Diem” which is Latin for “seize the day” and “taking chances” in life, describes this level of emotion when you can either feel this amazing sensation in your grasp or somehow letting it all slip through your fingers. This is a more gritty CD than "Songs From The Heart" and tends to ask more questions about our emotions than provides answers.

What we feel is not always what we convey in words and communication or lack of it can be our downfall, "If I lost my Mobile" describe the desperation as well as the frustration of losing the only means many people have of communicating with each other.

Songs such as the The Meeting is about recapturing that moment when everything was more than OK and why is it now all falling apart at the seams, and on the other end of the spectrum “Watching over you is about a lifetime commitment to the one closest too you, and At Last is when you have finally realised what it’s all about. Thanks to all those who like this song enough to record it on their own album, it's a great compliment.

We’ve added a few extra bits on this album, extra percussion by Dave, experimenting with African wood and other bits that he could hit, different structure with harmony lines and electric guitar played superbly by Keith plus our guest guitarist James Wilson playing on his first album.

This enabled use to put in more textures and flavours to the music hopefully taking things up a few levels, this is a less folky album than "Songs From The Heart" and has a bit more of an edge to it.

The third CD " A Walk In The Park" release date 14th November 2008

Third CD released by Tabitha Records on 14th November 2008 It’s called "A Walk In The Park" ,11 tracks and is a bit different from the first 2 albums (well we think it is), guest artists Chris Billings on slide guitar and also Ben Van Weede on fiddle on one of the tracks, Dave also brought in Congas, Boron and small Snare, Keith has done some fab fiddly bits on electric guitars and Colin has introduced the Mandolin as well as playing Electric guitar (gasp) to this album. The Boys did a successful launch concert at The Barnfield Theatre and are now generating much interest on the local, national and European radio station network.

There is a cunning plan to release a Jazz style chill out album later in the new year of some of our previously recorded tracks and also featuring young David on Ukulele on some brand new material as well, maybe Christmas 2008 but likely to be in the spring of 2009 with all tracks re mastered.

Fourth album now written and we are now looking at new recording facilities.

We have now started the fifth album (getting boring now) which we are dedicating to all those critics far and wide who said The Boys From Melbourne Street are just 3 old fogies who won't go the distance, we think 3 albums of published material inside of  3 years isn't too bad an achievement with 2 more already in the bag and we are still here. (with slightly less hair)

Hi to everyone who looks in on the site, look out for Dave's new drum stool, it has some interesting sounds and a big thank you to everyone who came and supported us at the album launch concert, Tony Batten from Milverton Music who did a sterling job as M/C,  Chris Billings on slide guitar and Jane Mayfield on backing vocals.

The new all singing and dancing web site is nearly done and will hopefully have a free download from each album plus sample tracks for you to listen to soon, along with the basket to buy section, also appearing (hopefully) will be the chance to buy a limited edition of my first ever album called CLOUDBURST digitally re mastered and re packaged in CD format. This album has 3 bonus tracks never been heard before

BRAND NEW WEB SITE BEING LAUNCHED THIS WINTER WITH FREE DOWNLOADS AND TRACK SAMPLES FROM ALL THE ALBUMS
